Wooden floor edging around architrave

Hi,
I am having a problem with edging around the wooden floor.
Builder has fitted the architrave and skirtings a long time ago and laid the wooden flooring this week. to cover the expansion gap around the edges, we used the mdf beeding.
It looks ok around most of the places, but around the door where the Wavy architrave meets the floor, it looks very awkward. after spending a fortune on the renovation, this bit looks really cheap.
I am sure there must be a solition for it, but I dont have any clue.
before speaking to the builder I want to know what are the options. Please can anyone help?

Cut the architrave and slip the flooring underneath.

As david29dpo has said , cut and slip.
But its not easy to cut that close to the floor .
Tenon saw , in your case best bet.

I lay a bit of the flooring upside down to use as a guide, hold the saw against that.

As the flooring has already been laid and it could be ruined getting it backup to fit under the skirt and arc. I would put 1 peiece of beading without any joints. Cut some groves in the back of the bead and it should bend. Glue and pin it to the skirt/arc. Then fill the gap at the top and paint.
  • Three things,

    1. For future reference never get a builder to fit wooden floors. I have fitted hundreds of solid floors and when you are doing a full refurb the sequence goes floor, then architraves then skirts, why your builder has done it this way I dont know.

    2. The issue around the architrave meeting the floor can be solved, forget about beading and trying to fit the floor under now, it will look awful, now the sequence is out of kilter you will struggle. What you need to do is have some custom made plinth blocks fitted to cover the gap. Basically you need to cut the bottom 150mm or so of the architrave away and fit a wooden block with a bevel on it. This is a feature on many period houses and once done you would never know there was a problem.

    3. I have my concerns that your builder has simply butted your floor straight up to your door linings rather than cutting away the bottom sections and slipping the floor underneath, this could cause you some problems in the future with the floor buckling and lifting a bit, is it a solid floor or an engineered floor, is it nailed/glued down or floating? If its a floating floor I would seriously consider having it taken up and relaid properly.

Dont bother getting your builder to try and sort these things out, he will only bodge it judging by his standards. You should get someone else in to sort it and see if he will accept a lower price. If not or he has already been paid then just bite the bullet and pay someone else. Where in the country are you?
