Rubbish Removal. What to do?

How does everyone remove rubbish from their houses? In the last year we've built up a steady supply of STUFF in our garage that is too big to put in the weekly trash. Things like boxes, packing materials and old plants and that sort of thing. None of which is savable (We recycle all we can, this is leftover).
It is probably not a whole skip's worth. But it sure is taking alot of space up in the garage. Taking it to the tip isnt possible (we work 10 hour days and the queues at the weekend are more than I can handle)
Does anyone know a good way to remove waste in the southeast (Im about 17 miles south of London, in Kent)
I know it is important to go with reputable companies, since I've heard horror stories about gypsies taking your rubbish & dumping it, and you get stuck with the bill! Also, burning it isnt an option in our area.

Are you a member of freecycle? You'd be surprised what people will take. On my local network someone advertised a load of bubblewrap and it was snapped up.
    The website is https://www.freecycle.co.uk.
Even if it isn't all taken you might get rid of some and help someone else out at the same time!

I paid the council £35 to clear a load of rubbish out of my garden which the previous owner left behind. However, they wouldnt take food waste or building materials.

In addition to conradmum's very good suggestion of freecycle, there is also http://www.free2collect.co.uk/ - same sort of thing.
  • I would also recommend the council if the other services are no good to you. I was charged £35 by the council to take a garage full of rubbish when I moved house and it's no hassle and you know they won't just dump it somewhere.

I am glad you mentioned using a reputable company. It infuriates me how many people will use people who have no intention of disposing of it properly. Fair enough this is a money saving site but it should be made a criminal offence to use these people.

you could get a mini skip, smaller than the large ones and cheaper, a quote i had today was £75 for a 2yard skip and £85 for a 4yard skip....... I ended up taking it to the tip instead, I also managed to get rid of quite a bit of stuff on freecycle as well

    Mortgage-free Glee!
My own council do free up lifts of furniture (3 bits a week) black bags last time I think I asked for 6 to be removed and also garden rubbish up to ten bags of grass cutttings and clippings. Worth a wee phone call.

Can you freecycle you packaging and boxes for ebayers, on the ebay board there is always a demand!

What is the problem that you cant deal with the weekend trip to the tip? Everyone else does it. Ive been a few times getting shut of rubbish both at weekends and mid week yes weekends are busy but not that bad, maybe wait until it isnt so hot or somthing it may be quieter. Also check the opening times of the local tip some have late night openings for those that work longer days. or you could break some of it up in to sizes that ill fit in the bin and get shut of it slowly.

my tip is mental at the weekends but we persevere. The council is your best bet though they can take a while!
