car service
I have a peugot 306 diesel. I had it serviced 2 years ago. It has done less than 2,000 miles since, as I only use it a couple of times a week for short local trips. It is due for MOT and I was wondering if I need to have it serviced again as it hasn't done much milage. The year when new is 2000.
Thanks for your help.

There is different types of "service" check your service history and the service schedule in the front of the same book, you may well be due a quick oil change or full monty belts etc.. dont be oversold, but dont miss important schedule items.0 -
The reason that services are scheduled for time periods/mileage (eg. 18months/20,000 miles) is that certain parts degrade over time regardless of use. Please make sure it is servicedProud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0

Get your car manual out and there should be a table of what needs doing when somewhere in it. Short trips are actually worse for the car than longer ones as they don't allow the engine to warm up properly, especially so with diesels, so its imperative that you change the oil every 6 months if not more often.
The bare minimum it needs now is an oil and filter change, but ideally a proper service.0 -
Brakes and exhaust will rust and corrode quicker too due to lack of use.Genie

Change the oil and filter, and check all the other fluids.
Kick the tyres. Nothing will have worn in 2000 miles.0 -
servicing isnt just oil and filter its about checking the condition of other parts of your car, after 2 years id get your brake fluid and coolant checked aswell and the battery. Even if you have a minimum service atleast its been looked at, a decent garage shouldnt charge much to check fluids and battery some even do it for free.0
