Annoyed with the dentist!

My dentist is private and he only charges £6 for an xray.0

Thanks people for the replies - much appreciated. I have been rather cheeky and sent Toothsmith a message just to get the professionals opinion on the matter.
You have all been really helpful:T0 -
I went to the same dentist every six months since I was 4. When I was 15 he told me I would need a filling, but made me wait 5 months for an appointment until I was 16 so he could charge me.0

Dunno what your dentist was doing?0 -
Went to the dentist for the 1st time in 8/9 years last week, i got a 3 min check up, told i need 3 x 30min sessions for 9 extractions + 2 fillings,,
What was weird to me was i was not given any say in the matter,, i am in no pain or have any loose teeth,, just a bit of a train wreck at the front,,
I went so i had a dentist incase of any future problems, but the main bit is i left with 3 appointments for a few weeks time but no cost was mentioned at all or any money taken,,
I cant afford hundreds as she did mention getting a mould for dentiors,,
I may have to phone them,, i am on no benifits & i waited a long time on the waiting list for this practiceMay'09 - Won tickets to Night at the Museum 2 June'09 - Electric Dreams DVD0 -

I would strongly advise you to do it- just yesterday I had my major work done, and although its not very comfortable right now, its a million times better than how it was. I had 2 extractions, 2 fillings and 1 set of dentures. It will improve your confidence so much!!
Mine is an NHS dentist and I paid Band 3 as I am not on any benefits. This gave me everything that was needed in order to have the dentures done.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. To put the original poster's concerns in perspective - I had an abcess uder a crown and had about 4 appointments to try to save the tooth, several x-rays, 2 lots of antibiotics, finally an extraction. As an NHS patient the total charge was £42. My friend is having some fillings and an extraction privately and has been told it will end up being several hundred pounds.
There surely has be a balance between profiteering private dentists and the NHS charges.0 -
I used to work around Dentistry Practices as a Servicing Technician (including the X-Ray and developing components).
The Dentists used to whine that working for NHS simply didn't cover the costs, an example was a routine filling, the money Dentists get for performing a standard filling for the NHS doesn't even cover the cost of the amalgam, let alone the anaesthetic, the sterilisation procedures, staff pay etc. Basically for the NHS they are working for a loss.
That was several years ago though.0
