Buying the Freehold

I own a leasehold flat in a building with just one other flat. Until recently the owner of the upstairs flat was the freeholder. However that flat has now been repossessed and it has come to light that the freehold had been transferred without my knowing to a management company.
Companies House have confirmed that this company is now dissolved -which leaves me with no freeholder.
Should I try to buy the freehold? From research it seems that the freehold now belongs to the Crown and I would have to apply through the Treasury Solicitor. Does anyone have any experience of doing this?
My lease is running low -76 years left so I assume it would be beneficial to me to take on the freehold -therefore making my property more saleable.
Any advice much appreciated.
