I noticed the Payplan representative was online so wanted to ask a question if possible...

I have recently sent all my paperwork back to National Debtline to get the ball rolling on a DMP.

I had requested I went with Payplan as I have a friend that works at CCCS and I don't want her to know (I am very private).

I had been told by National Debtline that all the docs sent back would be passed onto PP, how long can I expect that to take?

I have opened a basic bank account and have written to all creditors, I am just keen to get started on the programme!

    Any advice would be great!

    Thanks

Hi missindependant I can't give you an exact time scale but as soon as we receive all of your information someone will call you and go through everything with you. It seems that you are getting very organised with opening the new account (this is usually the biggest hold up when setting up an arrangement) so I don't think it will take very long.

Good luck with everything and let me know how you get on

    Lizzy.

    Hi Lizzy,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.

    What I have encountered is:
Offer letters were sent to all of my creditors, and most responded and accepted the offer. Great.
One of the lenders was listed as "Pending" for a considerable amount of time.
I started receiving snotty letters from this lender, so called them to advise I was dealing with PayPlan, and that an offer had been sent to them.
They advised that they hadn't received the letter, and that they did not accept DMP's within the first 6 months.
It's now been almost 12 months, so for about the 4th time, I asked my Account Manager to contact them to ask for the interest to be Frozen.

Usually I get the stock reply of "Payplan cannot guarantee that your lenders will freeze interest or charges". Which is all well and good, but I'd have expected them to be a little more proactive on my behalf. I realise you are all very busy, but I'd still have appreciated taking the time to deal with any issues I raised.

Anyway, the most recent message after I had noticed it is still listed as "Pending" has resulted in my Case Officer sending my I&E statement across to the creditor by post, and asking them to freeze the interest.

It just seems a little daft to be paying X amount when 10x X interest is added each month. It's one step forwards and then 10 steps back.

If all the lenders don't play ball together then the overall debt does not reduce, and I might as well seek a different solution really.

Hi fiscalfool, unfortunatly what you have been told is correct, we cannot guarentee all interest and charges are frozen. As much as we would like to give you better answers to you queries we simply can't. A DMP is an informal arrangement and your creditors unfortunatly don't haqve to agree to it. I can understand how frustrated you must feel and I really do hope that something gets sorted for you.

Let me know how you get on.

  • Thank you for quick response!
  • Out of curiousity is there any way of dealing with these debt managementment companies apart from on the phone
  • CCCS also told me they cannot guarantee that all interest is frozen as it is an informal arrangement but i was told that if the creditor in question that does not want to do this and sells the debt onto a debt collection agency, they (debt collection agency) are usually very willing to work with the CCCS. It would cost them to take you to court and if the judge sees you have only x amount to pay as you already stated via the CCCS it would be a waste of their time and money....at least this is how i understood what i was told? So am trying to be positive and hope they all accept the agreement!

Two reasons why I didn't go with Payplan:

1 They tried to hard sell me an IVA when I knew a DMP was what I wanted and was the best option for me
    2. They tried to sell me the extras which I had no need for as most of them I get for free through work

CCCS recommended a dmp which is what I was looking at so I went with them and have been happy with them. I didn't go it alone at the time as I was a bit stressed about it and wanted someone else to do the leg work for me. 3 years on and it's still going well, interest still stopped with most creditors and no phone calls since Oct 2008. Should be debt free in under 2 years.
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)

    Hi Deep in Debt,

Everyone who comes to us is given all of the options available for them to chose between. We are regularly audited by Citizens Advice Bureaux and creditors who refer to us. We were one of only 8 DMCs not to be criticised by the OFT recently. We are experts in IVAs and have been doing them for a long time and are one of the biggest providers. As a result if one is possible we will identify it and offer it. However overall, less than 10% clients feel that an IVA is the best option for them, which is why we offer a full range of solutions under one roof.

With regards to the extras, I know a few people have mentioned this, these are offered to all our clients to either help save them money or help protect them from unexpected costs in order for them to maintain their arrangements. These are only offered if they are relevent to the client.

  • To be fair to Payplan, I was offered the "extras" but after declining them I have not been pestered in any way. I think for some the "extras" are very useful.
