I was also asked, said that I if I died in service I'd get more than what they were offering and also if it is long term sick, I get 6 months full pay and I'm guessing if my sick was longer than that I'd get made sick retired. So hopefully I wouldn't need their option. If I'm made redundant then I wouldn't need PP since my redundancy should be fairly good, as I've had the same job for 38years.Paddle No 21 :wave:0

I'm currently with CCCS and found them to be very good. However I must admit that I have found their aftercare team a little "dismissive" on the phone at times. I know they are really busy, but there have been times when it seems like they are trying to get me off the phone ASAP.
I hear CAP (Christians Against Poverty) are supposed to be good. Has anyone ever dealt with them ?There is a light at the end of the tunnel.....I just need to find the switch.0 -

I know they have really helped some people on this board. Some people find it suits them as CAP will actually visit you in home, I think they probably provide more emotional support than say CCCS, which for some people makes a big difference (of course some people would not like this so much). I can recall at least one totally desperate, depressed person who posted on here and found they helped her a great deal.
I believe they don't yet cover the whole of the UK. I can't actually recall anyone saying anything negative about them.
For anyone considering them - you don't need to be Christian for them to help you, the religion part is more about why they do it, rather than who it is for.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Well it's now a few months on since my post and I've been with PayPlan for a while. Both in a joint agreement with my Ex, and then a single account.
Once I got passed to "Long Term Support" things nose dived. Service has tailed off, they really don't seem interested to help. They aren't bothered about chasing creditors to "persuade" them to freeze interest.
I'm getting to the stage where I really need to decide how to take this forward.0 -
Hi
Just to let you know from my personal experience - I didn't get on at all with Payplan and at the time CCCS were suggesting BR as my only option. I called National Debtline and I arranged my own DMP which meant I was in control.
I'll send you a PM with some info. The worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw

No matter who your DMP is with, it never hurts to be a little proactive yourself. The National Debtline website has lots of template letters which can be used to send to creditors to request that they freeze interest and charges, there's no reason why you can't write to them, instead of relying on PP or whoever you use.
I read recently that referrals to the free debt management companies had trebled over the last year so they must all be extremely busy. I'm with CCCS, who have been very helpful, but I have also written to my creditors myself (on the advice of CCCS) and have managed to get interest stopped or reduced on all of my balances.

Hi I have today also had a phone appointment with the CCCS and they were so helpful I almost cried (with relief i think that i had finally got help) he also had to re-work by budget to make it higher so we fitted in with guidelines because it looked like we should have 350 extra every month....which we have never had because of extra bank charges, bounced cheques etc....anyway i am quite looking forward to having a few spare pennies in the bank now so we can put money aside (as he suggested) in case of emergencies. I've never had an emergency fund before (just CC's!) so this will be good. Good luck with whatever you decide

Oh and i have also been told to write to creditors myself, as i type my printer is printing off copies for each one now ...long night me thinks!Emergency Fund goal - £717.77/2000
Weight loss goal 1 - 1/7 lb
Mortgage OP goal 2026 - £389.27/£4500

Good luck!
Thank you for your feedback. Payplan always said, "We will talk to your creditors on your behalf" hence why I've been stand-offish, and prompting them.
The one creditor who hasnt accepted my DMP is Santander, who tell me they don't accept DMPs, and will happily accept my reduced payment for six months and then review. But they've been charging 16% meaning it's shot up in what I owe!
Once I've moved house, I shall be reviewing my situation and either move my DMP to CCCS ... OR ... go with a more serious option.
Thanks for the link, I'll try that one with cahoot (Santander) ... see if I achieve anything!0
