Can anyone help - re-attaching mirror glass on Corolla

Are there any mechanics/ equally handy people out there who can advise. Last night some delightfully considerate driver knocked the driver side wing mirror of my 2001 Toyota Corolla and popped the glass out. Yes I know - hubby has already told me I should have folded the mirror in!

They appear to be heated mirrors and the glass has not broken. We cannot fathom out how to pop it back in.

On the back appear to be some clips that look a bit like split pins and spring apart. We know these go into some rubber grommit type pieces, and we can screw off the back piece and push them through that way. We just cannot work out how to do it when the mirror is assembled as the glass gets in the way IYSWIM.

Toyota won't adviseover the phone and I can't get the car there till late next week - plus they will probably want silly money. Is there something I am missing? Thanks
