I am looking for a 'no thrills' gps system, I just want to tap in where I am and where I am going and for it to tell me where to go(not all in one go, but throughout the journey). I am a bit of a technophobe so if you could explain in the most simple terms poss I would appreciate it.

We have a few people using TomTom at work, it's not the cheapest but its dead easy to use and none of the users have got lost yet.

There are loads of different systems out there, all offering different levels of kit. The all in one systems are expensive but easy to operate. My suggestion to you would be to look for a PDA (Hand Held PC) solution as these are more flexible than the all in ones and are available at a fraction of the price. To start you will need
1) A PDA (Hand Held PC), there are loads out there, Dell and HP are the two biggest here
2) Some Street routing Navigation Software the big players are
Tom Tom, Nav man and Microsoft Street map
3) A GPS receiver, this could be either a Bluetooth or Compact Flash device; this would be determined by the PDA you buy.
My suggestion would be to look around for complete systems being sold; EBay would make a good research tool. Try a search for Dell or HP systems and see what they offer, they are easy to use and map from postcode to postcode or street name and town.
Happy to advise where I can on this, I have a PDA system running TOM TOM on a Dell Axim X5, with a Compact Flash GPS. If I can be of more help then either post back or PM me.
