BT contract now void?

Thanks to learning of it from Money saving Expert, in May last year I took advantage of an offer from BT of free line installation under the terms of which I had to agree to an 18 months contract, to make 10 chargeable calls per month, and I only got free weekend calls and not free evening calls.
Dom Littlewood (on BBC's "The One Show") reported that BT were changing the times of the evening period from 6pm to 6am to 7pm to 7am next April and I believe it was stated that this change meant that existing contracts were not longer enforceable?
In your opinion am I now free from these stipulations and able to seek a better deal either from BT or from other suppliers?
