  • Whilst we don't have the car industry we used to, we do have a thriving industry supporting classic car ownership. That's parts supply and manufacture, restoration and the enthusiast support clubs.

HP sauce is now made overseas. The most popular cider on the market now is made in Ireland.

It might be the most popular (commercial), but it's not the best.

    I forgot to add...

    Queen Mary 2

It was the longest, widest and tallest passenger ship ever built, and with her gross tonnage of 148,528 tons, it was also the largest.

Sorry you'll have to knock Mars Bar off your list - they are and always have been American.

I worked for Mars for many years and they are owned by the Mars family - Forest Mars Sr was sent to the UK in the early thirties and he set up in Slough and produced the Mars Bar. It was his sons, daughter and one of his grandsons that I knew and met many times.

    Thank you.

I now want a mars bar as well as a pizza. :D

And I don't even like mars bars!

Let's stop talking about food. :silenced:

Not shipbuilding any more though. Lairds went under a few years ago but have been resurrected. However, all of the big yards where the British Merchant Fleets of the 50s and 60s were built (Tyneside, Belfast ect) are either closed or greatly slimmed down.

Some of the fleets, particularly in specific markets such as tankers, are still operated from the UK. The pool of British seafareres and officers is far smaller than it used to be.

We do however still have much of the marine insurance industry, marine legal matters and other related expertise.

I agree entirely. That's why I worded it how I did. Nasty confectionery brew.
