Barclaycard Problems

I received a letter from Barclaycard at the beginning of February because I'd missed two monthly minimum payments, because I didn't stick to my monthly budget over Christmas, because I wanted everyone to have presents :(

I posted a letter back on February 11th with a repayment schedule and also included my montly income and outgoings to support my offer. I also made an initial payment as detailed in the letter. However, this was less than the minimum they wanted me to pay because of the arrears outstanding.

Yesterday I've received a letter from Mercers demanding I make a payment by the 4th March, but I haven't heard anything from Barclaycard yet regarding the repayment schedule above. I can't afford to make the extra payment demanded by Mercers :( but wasn't sure if I should wait to hear back from Barclaycard or contact Mercers directly???

Advice appreciated...

It seems that the debt has been sold to a Debt Collection Agency and Barclaycard will probably direct you towards them...thats not a good sign

Ring Mercers straight away and offer what you can afford. If you don't ring, you wont know what's going on, and it'll only worry you.

  • Mercers get involved with defaulting Barclaycard owners and I have criticised Barclaycard for being in contravention of the OFT guidelines for them both chasing the debt at the same time. Decide yourself which one you deal with as Mercers belong to Barclaycard (small print at bottom of letter). Your account with BC is already shot through and they will close your account soon if you do not remedy the breach.

Barclaycard have already made their response to your repayment schedule by directing Mercers to contact you. Obviously the answer is "no deal".

If you need the card remedy the breach. Bankers are the only ones entitled to presents at christmas and they come in brown paper packages with high denominations of notes in vast quatities. The rest of us have to make good with gruel (see Oliver Twist by Dickins).
  • Is it worth forwarding my repayment offer and monthly income and expenses to Mercers, or should I write to Barclaycard again?

Don;t want to hi jack anyone's thread but am posting this as the headline isproblems.I have sent a request for my data using the address given by thge Information Commissioner. They did sign the recorded delivery letter this time with the name 'Barclay's Guy'.

Today I got a letter from yet another BC office claiming an account that I allegedly hadn't paid and that they would send it to a debt collector. They've already done this -to Lowell's- and because they couldn't provide the necessary documentation Lowell's wrote it off-so the debt must have been sold off

I want an end to any connection with BC but I can't get a straight answer re sums owed-and I'm not willing to cough up £3000 for the crooked agency I paid on my BC. As said on other posts I've even pursued for accounts I have nothing to do with

Any ideas gratefully received, I am hoping that the Information Commissioner's registered address for them will yield something that can be worked with

I would suggest writing to both, whoever writes back first stick to them and advise the other (in writing) that you are communicating with the other and kindly decist communication.

Would agree with this-whatever you do contact them in writing-especially when BC and Mercers cross over. They will bounce you from one to the other . It's a total nightmare-keep all communication in writing.
  • Mercers usually ask for 1% of the balance of the card to stop any default going onto file. Can you afford this?

double checked the BC account-yet again it isn't mine-not even the one they sold on. The first 3 digits are the same but none of the rest. So my plea for help was iinvalid as regards the sell on-but why this plethora of accounts that have nothing to do with me. Wonder what Subject Access Request will yield this time-this is the address formayyl registered with the IC
