I hope this is th right place as I am new to this, if I should post this else where please let me know.
i had a sickness policy with Legal and general to cover my mortgage if I was off work ill (sorry not sure of the correct title of the policy!)
i had this policy for approx 2-3 years and never missed a payment. I then became ill, after the 30 day period which you are required to be off for I submitted a claim. After waiting weeks I heard nothing so I contacted them and they said still looking into this.
I was under the specialist at the hospital infact 2. Legal and general decided to write to both to these, my GP as well (who was giving me sick notes the whole way through)
Anyway after this for months and months (I was off approx 1 year) they decided I was entitled to nothing! Saying I wasnt totally incapacitated.
So I wrote tot he financial ombudsmen. After a long time, these wrote back to me saying there was nothing they could do. In the policy terms and conditions it states ' Legal and Generals cheif medical officer basically and say wether he wants to pay or not!
So after 1 year of struggling to live and pay our mortgage we disscovered a policy which we had been paying for under good faith would pay us nothing!
So this is just to warn everyone, I have now cancelled every policy with them and taken it out with a different company. Just also to say i did have sickness cover on a loan I had and they paid me no problems.
Really hope this helps someone, not to get into financial difficulty like I did because Legal and General wont pay.

There certainly are cases where medical experts disagree with each others diagnosis and there are often cases when one doctor says that a person is unfit to do their current job but that does not mean that they are incapable of doing any job.
I obviously dont know your case but I have had far too many dealings with the FOS to know that they wouldnt simply say that an insurers policy term that their decision is final (which more or less every policy document has in it) would be accepted by the FOSAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
