Im really not having a good month.
It has been snowing here and the roads were very slushy and slippy I miss judged the distance between me the car in front and the gradient of the hill i was going down.(note to self double the distance when going down hills in ice) I ended up glancing the back of the car in front. No damage to either car as the car in front saw i was having trouble stopping and took his foot off the brake.
I gave him my details (reg number, mobile number name and insurance company) he gave me reg phone number and name.
Do I have a responsibility to report this to my insurance. I am going to call the people bumped into tomorrow to make sure they are ok they said they were fine at the time but its best to check. This will be my 4th year of claim free driving.

I am not sure on the legal requirement of reporting an accident to insurance company. I read on MSE than you have to be careful in case someone in the other car claims for an injury further down the line (guessing unlikely at the speed you probably hit them) as insurance company may wash their hands of it as the accident was not reported.0

By informing your insurance company, you are complying with their "many" conditions. By doing so you are not making a claim, so it will not affect your premium. You should also inform them if you get a speeding ticket. Again it will not affect your premium, but if the insurance company find out that either has happened and you have not informed them, they can refuse to pay out if you make a claim or only pay out a percentage. Just remember, insurance companies do not have a conscience.0

I'd edit your post and remove this bit pretty soon before the thread turns into a winter driving thread!
Years ago I got rear ended, no damage. Asked police if it needed reporting, as nobody was hurt it didn't. Never contacted insurance company either......0
