Cannot hibernate

My laptop will 20% of the time fail to hibernate coming up with a message that there are insufficient system resources to complete the API
There appears to be no link to what is running or what I have been doing for when this comes up.
Having checked all the logs for my laptop the CPU, RAM and HD all have plenty of resources left and so I have no idea what "resources" it is talking about.
Any ideas anyone?
