Buying a Vauxhall Astra Twin Top

Hi,

Tomorrow I am going to look at a 56 plate Vauxhall Astra Twintop 1.8 VVT Design (35000 miles and part leather). The asking price is £9999.

Earlier today I went to look at a 57 plate VAUXHALL ASTRA 2.0T 16V Exclusiv (27794 miles and Sports and Leather pack). Dealer said he could do it for £9995 and 6 months tax. I am not going for this car because the Insurance is sky high and Road tax for the year £410

Do you reckon I would be able to get the first car at around £9k max, do you reckon I would be able to get lower than that as it is a lower spec than the second car but more expensive!

Many thanks

  • from what car

    Dealer £8,575 Private £8,415 Part exchange £8,255 Trade £7,960 Cost new £19,195

Depends on how long dealer has had it. Is it main dealer or independant ?

But yes, I would go no more than £8750

The dealer is called Jefferies Farm Trade Centre, not sure if I can post links on here so I won't. Thanks for your help :)

I own an Astra H hatchback and am a member of a couple of owners clubs so I've nothing against the Astra or Vauxhall but the reports I've heard about the TwinTop are mixed to say the least. A lot of reports of dodgy roof mechanisms etc.

Have you test driven the 1.8? It'll be a big comedown from the 2.0T especially in a TwinTop (given it's about 200kg heavier than the hatchback)

By all means go for it if you like it however I do hope you've done a lot of research first :)

As for an older, higher mileage 1.8 VVT being more expensive than a 2.0T (even if just by £4) - that's laughable.

Yes that is it Angelic. I will test drive it today and have done a bit of research, so will let you know how I get on.
  • I would buy it at 9k max.
