Joint Bank account with no credit check?

My partner and I want to open a joint account, but to be honest - both of us don't have a great credit rating.

We want an account which gives us a debit card (it can be electron or whatever) and will allow us to gradually build up the account, to a full account once they see that money is going into the account, bills getting paid etc, and most importantly, one that dosen't have, or have a high credit scoring.

Can you advise me on any accounts?

You could try the Halifax Easycash account.

They provide an Electron Visa debit card and don't do a credit check. This is a basic bank account (no overdrafts, no cheque book) with online banking facilities.

The Easycash account also gives you the possibility of being able to upgrade to a full Halifax account over time. They may or may not need to do an external credit check, depending on how the Easycash was run (but will be able to tell you before you apply whether or not they will credit check you).

I'd rather stay clear of Halifax/BOS. My partner has had an Easycash account with them for around 2 years, having on average £1100 getting paid in each month, has never had a charge, and has paid direct debits on time. They still won't upgrade his account because they say he isnt passing the credit check. So thats why will let us build the account up we want an account that will let us do it without a credit check. RBS let me upgrade my account as I managed it well without a credit check

It would have helped had you mentioned the Halifax exlusion in your original post. :(

It seems a bit strange, however, that credit checks are failing after two years of proper conduct of the account. I would suggest you get a credit report to investigate the problem. Halifax are obliged to tell you which Credit Reference Agencies they have referred to.
