What sort of size are you looking for and what is your budget. ND Aquatics do some lovely looking aquariums and cabinets at reasonable prices. You could also try the aquatics store who have a range of the more plug and play systems.0

3ft tropical tank, all the bits? Got no stand so it just sits empty :rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Have a look at ebay. You may pick up a decent set far cheaper than a new one. I recommend going for the biggest one you can afford as small tanks can be difficult to keep stable.
Have you thought about what sort of fish you'd like?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Great! I love rainbows. Haven't kept any myself, but some info from my books - Threadfin rainbows, forktails and neon dwarfs grow to no more than 2-3" so you can have a fairly small tank for them; 2 or 3 foot. Boeseman rainbows get to 4" so you'd need at least a 3 foot tank, obviously bigger if you plan on having a decent sized shoal. Banded rainbows get to 5" and need a bigger tank again.blaque*angel wrote: »My son likes rainbow fish, so i think that is what i will go for
I got my biggest tank for £30 from a local ad and the stand free on ebay. I had to buy a decent filter but there was a heater and light with it. It's a 4 foot one. I've seen loads going on freecycle. It's worth keeping an eye out.
However, if you'd like to get a new one, have a look at the aqua-el ones. They're quite a bit cheaper than some of the other brands and, though the filters aren't top of the range, they do the job well.
Edit - I know you didn't ask for this info, but I thought it was worth mentioning: some of the rainbows need hard water and some need soft water. It's worth finding out what your tap water is like before buying them as it'll be cheaper in the long run to go for fish suited to your tap water rather than having to adjust it to suit the fish!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
