It's been an idea pottering around my mind for ages. I just figured if I can squeeze it in for a good price before moving abroad i'll do it.

Colombia is a mysterious and yet beautiful looking place. It seems a lot safer than how it was before from what i've read up on the country.

That said if I end up going i'll most certainly be on my guard at all times! :)

Maybe it's just the Michael Palin programme of it that puts me off. But yet again I watched his programme on Vietnam after I'd booked it and wished I hadn't. But when I got there it was OK.

Which Michael Palin show is it in? Will have to track that down for some tips and ideas!

I got a few friends that have been to Vietnam, they said it was fantastic.

It's in the Full Circle series. I've found a link to it on his site here:

Thanks a million for the above information, very much appreciated! :)

Do I need a visa and any specialist travel insurance for visiting Colombia? Or any dealings with the Foreign Office?

    hi again

you don't need a visa - you usually get 30-90 days entry/stay, depending on how long you tell them you are planning to visit for.
most travel insurance policies cover colombia but you won't be covered if you go to any areas that the british foreign office tell you to avoid - this info is available on

you don't need to deal with foreign office. just book your plane tkts, places to stay, get your jabs, insurance and have a good time......colombians, on the whole, are lovely people.
