condensing boiler stopped working

Options
I had a new condensing boiler fitted in July 09 and on Christmas Eve it stopped working. The company that fitted it came and had a look and I had hot water and heating for 24 hours then it stopped working again. The company said they couldn't do anything else or it would invalidate the manufactures warranty. The manufacture engineer came out and said it was because the system needed to be flushed through and there was nothing wrong with the boiler. The fitters company then came out and spent about 30 minutes there and everything has been alright until yesterday. The boiler is still providing heating to the radiators but no hot water. Again the manufactures engineer has said the boiler is fine and the system needs flushing through. The fitters company are trying to say it’s nothing to do with them but as it is still under the fitter’s company warranty what kind of comeback do I have to make them for fill their obligation?

  • You had a quote off them in writing and on there is your agreement with them, length of time they guarantee their work. Phone them and read out their terms to them, and tell them if they don't fulfil the agreement you will go to the local trading standards agency, watchdog, and anyone else with clout.
  • thanks a lot i have done that as well as quoted them the supply of goods and services act 1982. they are coming out next week to flush the system again.
  • Hi

    What make is the boiler?
Does it have a filter of any kind on the return .Magnaclean or similar?
What do they say is wrong that it won't produce hot water.?

It is up to the installer, if there is no problem with the manufacturers product,to get the boiler going again.

1 in 5 Condensation boilers are breaking down in cold weather yet they cost around £500 more than conventional models says a report in the Express and Star (20/2/2010).
So beware. You may not save as much as you think.

All boilers fitted are now condensing boilers. Like all new technology, theyve not been around that long in the grand scheme of things so we are finding out the problems as we go along.

If the boiler has broken down when it is extremely cold outside, check the condensing pipe - if its frozen then get a hairdryer and thaw it out. Then see if it works - Lag the piping as soon as possible if its not already done. Just checking the pipe isnt frozen can save you the hassle of waiting in for someone and obviously gets the problem solved a lot quicker.
