4 shifts holiday needed - any advice?

I work 24/7 shift and get total of 26 shifts a year off, including my bank holidays. I have 3 shifts left and need 4 more for a holiday this year. I've suggested un-paid leave but this idea was pretty much knocked on the head, I've heard you can take holiday from next years allocation? I know it probably seems like just a holiday, why not wait til next year but has anyone got any suggestions or ideas of how to get the time off?
It will be a once in a lifetime trip
Do i have any legal rights as an employee regarding holidays or leave?
Many thanks in advance

I've no idea on the legal side of things but I also work 24/7 shifts and one of the things we do in situations like this is swap specific shifts - no-one ends up working any more than they need to but you get the time off you need. Obviously you need your workmates to be willing to help...but if you're generally willing to help each other out then you should be OK.
The other thing is that for a truly "once in a lifetime" trip I'm sure your manager would consider letting you use some of next year's allocation or let you take unpaid leave.0 -
I used to work 24/7/shifts , how about working a bank holiday for time off which should be double time?
Can you do overtime for time?
Swapping shifts already mentioned
Swapping with Colleagues already mentioned
Bit of a longshot , if you have kids under 5 , you are allowed 13 weeks off between the ages of 0-5 (not per year) and I think thsi is unpaid.
I dont remember us being able to borrow from next years quoto , might be health and safety issues , these days, i.e tiredness from lack of break etc.
Finally how about doing a report to HR outlining your request and emphasising the "once in a lifetime"aspect?0 -
