I just want to double check something before i sign a new tenancy agreement.
We moved into our house on the 16th march 2009,but because my husbands pay day was the 20th we paid 4days rent cash in hand to change our rent payment date to the 20th of every month.
Have done this for the past year but now we are about to sign our new agreement, again from the 16th of every month BUT they have now changed the rent payment date to the 16th.
Does this mean i have overpaid 4days rent as my last payment of this tenancy will be going out on the 20/2/10 but the next payment is due 16/3/10
please help!

Yes you will have overpaid by four days. However your dates don't add up: if your husband gets paid on the 20th then the rent can only leave your bank account on the 20th to arrive a couple of working days later, which means you will be paying late every month.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

The silly sods have moved the dates backwards instead of forwards. This doesn't necessarily inspire much confidence, I must say0

Yep FF and B&T are right. Paying the full rent on the 20th would leave you 4 days rent in credit with your agent. Make them aware of the original extra payment and say that your final payment will either be the 16th or 4 days short.0

A more sensible option could be for the agreement to have the rent-payment date as the 24th to take into account the 4 days you paid in cash and for the rent to come out of your husband's bank on the 20th to take into account his pay-date if it hasn't changed since you originally signed the initial agreement. I suspect that this was what they were seeking to achieve in the first place before they got someone to type it up who was too thick to figure it out properly. Then you wouldn't be making any rent-payments late in future0

I hope you had a receipt for the cash in hand payment and they are not disputing that you paid it?0

Thanks for the replies. yes we did get a receipt when we paid, its safe in our records box. i rang and queried with them about the dates, and also the fact im being charged for the new tenancy when its them who had messed up around in the first place.so they are going to cancel the renewal fee, keep the date the same for rent and our final payment will be the £67 less.so not a bad phonecall
