PS3 error code 80010514

Hi, my son's PS3 is showing an error code 80010514. Basically it is not reading any discs. I rang Sony this morning who agreed it was faulty and suggested I returned it to them for a replacement, however because I do not have proof of purchase they now say they are unable to help me. We have the box, I've given them the serial number, paid approx £300+ for the console approx 2 years ago. Surely they cannot get away with this ???

But you have no proof of purchase, for all Sony know you could have bought it second hand off eBay.

Did you send off the warranty card for the PS3 when you bought it?

How did you pay for the console?

If you paid with a cc/dd card and can find details of the transaction then Sony "may" change their minds.

Why would you expect Sony to replace for free after 2 years anyways?

You could try these guys to fix it for you, a friend of mine used them and they sorted things out very quickly, worth a try if you dont fancy dealing with sony;)
