Growing beansprouts now?

I believe you can grow them any time of year. Last time I did it, I put beans in a large jar with a lid with holes punched in and kept rinsing it out with fresh water during the day. I kept the jars on a windowsill. Probably took about a week to get fully grown sprouts.0

Done it loads of times, I put in airing cupboard, keeps warm & dark
In jar with hanky or similar over top, rinse daily with clean water

Thanks for the replies. I tried the method described by billieboy last summer. I think once the sunniest/brightest days went less, this meant hardly any decent beansprouts. Unsure whether it was due to the beans being old though. I'll try a few now and see what happens using both your techniques.0

The Old Stylers sprout beans in this way - I think there is a thread here which talks about all the different types of seeds you can eat as sprouts.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

angelavdavis - thanks for your thread which I have reread. It has made me interested again to do different types of sprouts this year.0

The local garden centre was selling some packs of seeds off along with the sprouters, so as we eat a fair amount of these and my 5 year old is getting a taste for them I picked one up. I'm sure you can get the seeds cheaper online but this seemed a sensible way to try them out and see how we get on before I end up with a ton of them that we never use!Adventure before Dementia!0

I just used mung beans from the likes of ASDA, the ones sold for cooking, I guess same would apply to any other items, like chick peas, or even green peasWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0

Thanks for the replies. I have seen more progress with the jars on windowsill method compared to those in the cupboard.0

Just Wondering what would be best for broad beans?. My 4yr old came back from school with 2 broad beans in a half pint plastic cup with a damp cloth in it for him to grow at home.
Thinking now that should the top of the cup be covered? or should i really put it in a jar as mentioned above or move it elsewhere?. We have put it in the windowsill but have had two really rainy days since & not much sun. He's eagerly watching them as school keep mentioning them to the them, any advice please!!as we want to try get it right!0
