Re-testing fee for MOT

I took my car to a local independant garage who takes your car somewhere for an MOT then repairs it and gets it retested. This time my car needs a new seatbelt in the back... fine. But now the garage tell me they can't get hold of the part (apparently it's on backorder even at the dealer) til next week at the earliest. Bearing in mind, my mot was 11th Feb, this gives me until next Thursday for the free retest. If I have to wait longer than this for the part, do you think I should be liable for the retest fee?
I could be completely incorrect and I am aware of this so don't be aggressive or mean, but I don't think that I should be as it's not my fault they can't get hold of the part?

So is the garage's fault? No. So if you have to pay for a re-test then you have tgo pay. Personally I would keep quiet and cross your fingers.0

if it was me I would be scouring ebay and find-a-part (online) but it will still take a day or so.0

It's not their fault either, they don't make the rules, they are set by VOSA.
14 days means 14 days.0 -
They dont HAVE to charge you for the restest. The only rules set by VOSA are the maximum amounts they can charge.
You wouldn't be entitled to the free restest after 14 days, but there is no harm in asking.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -

Exactly my point.
I've had a car that was a right sod to get MOT'd and only paid one test fee despite it going back 2 times! :cool:Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
Thanks guys... yes I'll look at ebay etc later, but the garage helpfully only told me today that they couldn't get the part, when it was meant to be in last friday!!!!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16
