Watch Battery Change

Hi all,
I am in the midst of changing a battery on my wife's Lorus quartz watch. The watch is a straightforward one of the type you can pick up from Argos.
Anyway, I have a replacement battery inserted into the watch, but I am having trouble closing the back.
I took the back off with a knife edge, the back of the watch body has a tiny indentation under which you can get a tool (knife edge in my case) and lever the back off.
The battery replacement was quick and simple, like for like swap. The seal is well out of the way and in placve. But the back does not snap back on. It is not a screw down affair and it it lined up as it was when I took it off.
I have pllied as much force as my thumbs can muster, so any advice, tips or tricks to get the back on again would be gratefully received.
What I thought would be a straightforward moneysaving job is beginning to drive me up the wall!

No, the battery only sits snugly one way, so it's not that.Hoping this year is better than the last.

The backs on some watches will only go back the same way arround that they come off.
Is there a notch in the back to accommodate the adjustment spindle?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
some watch backs are finely engineered. they must line up exactly.
and some fair pressure is required to snap em shut.Get some gorm.0 -
There is a notch for the crown spibdle and I am lining that up the same way as the back came off. I have tried pressing the back on with two thumbs and just can't get the flaming thing back on.Hoping this year is better than the last.

I have a snap back case and I am having trouble getting the back on.
Some case backs are tight to remove and to put back on.
When placing the case back be sure that the indent on the inside of the cover lines with the winder. The best way to put the cover back on is to place the watch face down on a flat protected surface. Then with the case lined up with the back, push down with both thumbs, applying even pressure to the case edge, making sure that one side doesn't get pushed further in than the other.
The cover should snap back into place.
If you fail to get the back on, then a jeweller would use press like we use.

I use a 1" vice with plastic or wood in the jaws and just go gentle. You could go for oneof these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Watch-Crystal-Case-Back-Press-Tools-Watchmaker-11-Dies_W0QQitemZ260491693766QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM?hash=item3ca683cec60 -
Molerat, thanks for that. I have a vice somewhere in the garage, so my next step is to dust ot off, put some wads of cloth on either side of the watch and give it a go.Hoping this year is better than the last.
