I have a older but still going strong HP Pavilion 7950 that I accuired for free and Ive resurrected it and to be honest its a little darling of a PC but only had 256mb of RAM so I ordered some more another 512mb from Crucial and I came up against a bit of an odd problem, If I put the 256 and 512 into the slots (I only have 2) I get on stop errors and also beeps to say somethings awry.
Anyway I have tried every single way of trying the RAM different sized RAM in different slots and all sorts now a friend said it maybe down to the fact that the RAM needs to be two sizes of the same stuff ie. only 512 and 512 not 512 and 256 I have heard this before but how true is this with a HP Pavilion 7950 as crucial didnt say that may be the problem they have never heard of this before.
Just wandered if anyone wants to take a stap at this I will have another 512 turn up on Mon or Tues so I will know for certain then

nope. shouldnt make a difference. you dont need 2 of the same size for them to work. if you are putting the memory in and the computer is constantly beeping when you turn it on its either faulty memory or you havent put it in the slot correctly0

Memory is OK and so is the fitting aswell. :think:0 -
Is there a problem before bootup or is it a windows problem. If you're using windows 98 it doesn't work above 512. But I know people who have had conflicts simply because the memory wasn't from the same manufacturer."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Its on Boot (although I didnt) turn off restart on errors and Im back to 512 as I have sent back the 256 and ordered another 512 just to see if 1024 works ok instead of 768 also its XP Pro 1.4ghz also two drives 60gig one 30gig I did also hear a rumour that PSU consumption may affect this problem (as I have added another drive) but im not 100% sure.0 -
Sounds like it's just one of those funny conflicts between sticks of memory. Power consumption by ram is relatively quite low 1 stick is about 7 watts and so two sticks would be 14, you'd have to already be right on your psu limit for that to be the case. Let's hope the two 512 sticks work together."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
