Now the complication comes in that it is possible to waiver those statutory rights to a cooling off period (not sure if that applies to gas/electricity), but as I understand it, only when by doing so allows the contract to commence before the expiry of such cooling off period.
In the elec change of supplier process once it has started it can't be stopped therefore most if not all suppliers do not start the process until the cooling off period has ended. This in effect adds 7 days from the date of sale to the date you are supplied by them. By getting you to waive the right they can get you on supply anything up to 7 days sooner. Indirectly therefore the cooling off period impacts the date the contract commences.

Oh boy, BG are really trying my patience now.

We had a boiler break down a couple of days ago the 2nd since christmas.
With the 1st boiler I called BG for a repair and accepted there offer of £99.00 parts and Labour to fix it. Also £20 per month to put the boiler and central heating on homecare cover. The engineer came out and fixed the problem after 2 vists. The 2nd vist was to fit the parts he ordered.

Now the 2nd boiler failed with the same fault so I call BG planning on doing the same thing as I did with the 1st boiler........oh was I mistaken....because I have one boiler already on homecare I can't use the £99.00 deal and then put it on cover. (Discrimination of an exsisting customer). This time I had to pay £168.00 for the fix then take out a homecare contract. To add to this when the engineer came round to fix the fault which he did we also noticed that an electronic valve was faulty. The engineer tried to order the part only to be told that the £168.00 repair is for a single fault. If I want the valve repaired I have got to pay another £98.00 for the part.

If you go to BG's website and look at the boiler repair T's & C's you find the following:

    8. The charge for the work includes the labour, parts and call-out for fixing the first fault we identify, and faults directly related to that fault. We may charge you separately for repairs to further unrelated faults.

Well that's fair enough, my mistake I should have checked the website.........but even in todays world of the computers not everyone has access to the internet and BG do not volunteer this clause when you call them to book a repair.......naughty BG.
