Just replaced a tap on the bath, dropped the old tap and now have a 10mm x 6mm hole in the bath, can anyone advise the best way to repair.

Thanks Jayne

You can repair using a fibreglass repair kit designed for canoes e.g.

    Or Halfords:

I once punched a hole in the fibreglass bumper of a Reliant Robin many a year ago, the repair using such a kit came out quite nicely but had to spray the right colour over to finish the job.

However with a bath I suspect getting it to look cosmetically nice afterwards can be tricky. Also you will need to access the underside of the bath and clean the affected surfaces and around rigorously before proceeding.

    Or... try your house insurance!

as a temp measure use a nut and bolt with two steel washers, some rubber washers and a dab of silicone.

watch yer bum when getting in the bath!
    Get some gorm.
  • You can generally pick up a new basic bath for around £100. If you try and do it through your contents insurance, it will only pay out for the replacement of the bath and not the whole suite so if it is an old bath that is of an unusual colour, you may end up with a white bath that doesn't match the rest of the suite.

no point in claiming if your excess is 50/100/200 etc... quid.

    Thanks for the ideas.
I have gone for the nut and bolt so at least we can bath and shower for the next few days, my local ironmongers is bringing me in some resin thats used on boats tomorrow so hopefully that will work while I check out some more bath prices.
It is not worth claiming on my ins as a bath will probally be about the same price as my excess.

In my area there is a guy called 'The Magic Man'. He does repairs to laminate floors, worktops, plastic doors, baths sinks etc. I've used him a couple of times on different jobs and you would never know that it has been repaired. It might be worth checking locally to see if there is something similar in your area. Interms of putting it through your insurance, it will come off your BUILDINGS insurance and not the CONTENTS. Additionally, if it is non-white, don't worry. Insurers deal with companies that have huge obselete stocks. I've managed to get pieces matched from over 20 yaers ago. Also the insurers will pay for the labour costs of installing the new one, some retiling and disposing of the old one.

Brilliant idea for a franchise, that Magic Man, their rather basic website shows they cover most of UK, it seems to be like a Chips Away (car scratch repair franchise) but for the home. Wonder if anyone can give feedback on them?
