Sorry, i know nothing about this whatsoever.
And apologies if it's posted in the wrong box.
My sister has no phone line but has a contract on a virgin dongle,
her son wants to connect x-box live, can anyone give any help how she goes about connecting.
Thanks in advance

Hello,
It should be possible but can be tricky to setup. I don't have a dongle so I can't advise on specific settings.
The main steps will be:
1. Setup Internet Connection Sharing on the PC/Laptop
2. Connect the Xbox to the PC/laptop using the ethernet network cable
3. Configure the Xbox network settings
There are lots of guides for setting up Internet Connection Sharing for Xbox on the web.
Just make sure you follow the ones for Internet Connection Sharing, and not the one for 'Bridging connections' which will not work with a dongle (it's for wireless routers which work differently)
How good this will work will depend on the speed of the broadband that the dongle can get.

I don't do gaming but most gamers seem to be obsessed with latency (ping). On a typical ADSL connctiontion you could expect 15 - 40ms but with 3G BB that can easily run from 150ms upwards. Gaming on a 3G connection is going to be very frustrating indeed I suspect.
I'm on 3G at the moment...

I don't think the connection will be fast enough for gaming plus it will use a lot of data.0
