Chicken 4 days past use by date

Should I throw it away? Has been in the fridge (hubby should have put it in the freezer)

  • Definitely. It's not worth the risk as anyone who has ever suffered from food poisoning knows. I once had dodgy chicken in a restaurant and was really ill for two weeks.

And I have just noticed that you have 2 little ones - you def don't want to be poorly!!!

  • :o ta, thought so

  • Hmmm - maybe open it up, have a look at the meat itself? If it's not slimy, discoloured or rank-smelling you might well be fine to eat it :)
  • I'd chuck it, and I'm very relaxed when it comes to use by dates. You don't want to mess with poultry ;)
  • id throw it.. one day over id give it a sniff, but 4 days.. they are pretty old already before they even get to the shelves and i dont think its worth the risk..

If it's fruit or chocolate etc then use by dates are second to me having a good smell and feel.

But when it comes meat & chicken... Don't take any risks - Food poisoningis not cool
  • Don't risk it, not with white meat!

  • I have to agree, beef or pork etc I'd smell it but for poultry I'd throw it with out a second thought.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

If in doubt, throw it out!
