Morning all,
I've googled this problem but getting nowhere with it, I hope someone on here with laptop experience can help.
I've ben asked by a family member to take a look at her laptop, its a old Advent L7200. The laptop works with the AC adaptor but will not work with just the battery.
The laptop can see there is a battery inserted by flashing the 'recharge' light but I'm thinking the battery won't hold any charge at all. As soon as I take the AC adaptor out the laptop dies. I've tried leaving overnight to charge with no luck.
The battery (advent 7240) is approx £100 to buy, and I refuse to take £100 off her when I don't know for sure it is the battery at fault. On the battery are 5 pins (see pic) and I'm *guessing* 2 pins are for +/- output, 2 pins for +/- input and 1 pin for telling the laptop the battery is connected......
I've got a muli-meter here but because the pins are so tiny the multi-meter probes won't fit inside the terminals. So I've used some tin-foil to make the pins more accessible. As far as I know I've tried testing each pin combination but can't get any kind of output reading.

Can anyone give any advice? Apart from telling me to buy a new laptop??
Have a nice sunny Sunday all!!

On some laptop batteries they are actually repairable as the battery isnt a battery in the sense of a big lump but cells that fit in a case and on some laptop models the case can be opened and the cells replaced so the cost is lowered as they can be generic cells that are placed within a specific enclosure maybe worth researching into wether that model of battery can be brought back to life with new cells, I once found a website that gave instructions on how to do this but for the life of me I cant remember the link as it was some years ago.
Actually I just found this http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_3.htm0 -
