Passport name change

When changing a name on the passport form does the box for new photo need to be crossed as well as the one for the new name?
New photos are getting used (although they arent that much different to the ones already in the passport) and that isnt the reason for the passport name change, it is purely for a change in surname.

If you aren't sure, ring the helpline - better to confirm with the Passport Office rather than send it off & have to resubmit it because it was wrong.0

I believe the answer is yes. If I remember rightly (just under a yr ago when i did mine) you have to have a new photo so need to tick the photo box. Its more like applying for a new passport than changing your name. You don't get anything back from your old passport if it has not yet expired.0

It is a disgrace I got 9months carried onto my new one when I changed mine after getting married. I had 7years left on mine too.0

Yes you do get 9 months if your old one still have at least that left on it.
I changed mine last year for a married name change, had new photos too but can't recall what boxes were ticked, I filled in the form online and they sent it to me.
I know I didn't have to have the new photos certified by anyone.2 angels in heaven :A0 -

I know I think so too, mine runs out in 2018 and I emailed them to check if once I am married I will lose all the years and I Coudlnt belive it when they said yes I would barr 9 months, I replied to them that its a disgrace and they said plain and simple its your choice to change your name, which I think is a pathetic reason!Debt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)

When I married (in 1999) they told me I could carry on using my passport as long as I booked the tickets and insurance in my maiden name too (so the surnames matched). Wonder if that's now been stopped?:cool:kindofagilr wrote: »I know I think so too, mine runs out in 2018 and I emailed them to check if once I am married I will lose all the years and I Coudlnt belive it when they said yes I would barr 9 months, I replied to them that its a disgrace and they said plain and simple its your choice to change your name, which I think is a pathetic reason!0 -
Could anyone help? I have booked a holiday for my daughter. SINCE then she has changed her name by deed poll. Can she arrive at the airport with the passport and deed poll documentation. Need she mention the name change at all? Would "they" know she has changed her name?
Thankyou0 -

Why is that a pathetic reason? It sounds like the simple truth to me.0 -
I had to renew my passport just before I got married, so its in my maiden name and will be for the next 10 years. It's not a problem at all as long as you book any travel/flight tickets in the same name. It's not compulsory to change your name upon marriage so the MS way to do things is to update it as and when your passport expires.
If you wish to do so before then, you will lose all but 9 months of any remaining validity - but that's your choice.0
