I welcomed the transparency of being able to see what you were getting for your savings from the Halifax and other enlightened savings institutions. Let's hope the present situation it is just a technical blip rather than a conscious decision by some banking executive who would prefer that you did not know what interest rate you were getting.

I've never emailed Halifax but would like to now, to add my voice to the unhappy... but can't see where to do it from in the secure area. Yea I know it must be staring me in the face :o but could someone just point me to the obvious? Thanks.

You could ask them how may customers dissapproved of the interest rate display.

    from their website -

    Contact us by Email
If you're registered for our online service and you need help you can email us. Our Online Help section aims to answer your questions. Clicking 'Help' from the top right hand corner of the online service will open 'Online banking help'.
You can then use the search tool to find an answer to your question. For further help, you'll see an option to "Email our Online Support team". Someone from that team will then email you back with an answer to your query.
Please do not email us with any questions relating to your accounts as we are unable to answer account specific queries by email.

I've emailed on several occasions, and have always received a reply. I emailed a couple of days ago when I first noticed the interest rate had disappeared. As I wasn't satisfied with their standard response, they've forwarded it on to their complaints department, who, they say, will reply.

The merger of platforms between HBOS and LTSB has seen the decision taken to use the LTSB technology.

This will, in time, save them £hundreds of millions each year, hence the decision.

In the short-medium term it's likely that HBOS customers will notice changes in procedures in branches, call centres and online. Longer term I understand that there is a plan to enhance a wide range of systems across the business which (my contact said in the pub last night) is intended to improve service for all customers.

So it is apparently a case of one step back before some giant strides forwards.

The key questions for me are:

    1) What will the giant strides forwards look like?
    2) How long will they take to implement?
    3) What happens when (as always happens in banking) capital budgets get cut?
    4) Will "nice to haves" like interest rates on the screen return?

I don't think there are any sinister implications of the decision to remove interest rates from the account screen (it never showed for some accounts anyway) but it is much more about merging the platforms.

Out of interest, are LTSB online transactions between savings accounts and current accounts instant?

I'm a novice compared to you lot, but HBOS (for all their sins....namely halifax full stop) have a great online service.
It seems to be pretty much the best I've come across (bookeeper for companies with many different flavours of bank). What could the strides forward be?

I am an ignoramus when it comes to LTSB....but I've never forgiven TSB for talking my parents out of their repayment mortgage to an endowment and leaving them with over 20K to find at the end of the debacle. Thank god he had a council pension, saved their skin.
Not just a sucker for sweeties..:o
  • Thanks for the email address. I have just emailed Halifax to let them know I am not happy about the interest rate not being shown. Not that it will make any difference.
