Just a quick question regarding joint current accounts. I'm thinking of opening a joint FlexAccount at Nationwide with my girlfriend. We wouldn't need an overdraft, so just wondered if you can ask them to not put an overdraft on the account, and whether this still results in you being financially linked at the credit reference agencies, even if the account has no credit facilities?
Not that this is a problem, just wondered!

You will be financially linked if you open a joint account whether you have an overdraft or not.0

Thanks for letting this know as, is there any other options, as I am in a mood to open a joint account and if there will be any other alternatives then it will be beneficial for me to know.
Thanks0

best not to open joint a/cs ... easy to open and hard to close
reality is that many relationships break up; sometimes not always amicably
if you have children then maybe a good idea otherwise avoid.0

We have a joint account which is used ONLY for paying regular monthly bills, council tax, utilities etc and NOT for anything else. We both tip into it from our own accounts.
The ONLY reason we have it is - being an older couple - we wanted to be sure that bills etc would get paid in case of serious illness/death of one of us.
DH was very much against the idea of a joint account for us - bad experiences in an earlier marriage. His ex took the view 'what's his is mine and what's mine is my own'. Need I say more?Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0

Good advice. I am currently in a joint account with my soon to be ex husband and the bank has told me I need his permission to be released from it:undecided I've had to go through my solicitor to try and sort it:(:dance:Mash p'tater, mash p'tater:dance:0
