Changing internet provider + e-mail address

A bit of advice/help please.

I want to move to a cheaper internet provider, but am worried that i'll lose access to my BT e-mail address. Hundreds of people/companies have it, and I'd never be able to remeber them all to give them a new address.

Would I still have a "live" e-mail with BT if I moved? If so, would it be accessed through outlook as it is now, or would I have to go via the BT site + login there?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

you should be able to continue to use your BT address (for a while) but you need a change in the SMTP settings in Outlook as you'll be sending emails via your new provider.

p.s. but see below - it may cost you (thanks robt)

    That is incorrect.

It would cost £1.50/month to keep the email address, as stated by the BT Rep.

You should really create a new address which is not tied to your ISP - whether that means telling hundreds of companies and people or not.
  • If you get yourself a googlemail account, you can set it to pick up mail from your BT account and tell people your new address one by one as their emails come in.

BT does not always remember to cancel your BT email when you leave them!

I agree, get a free Googlemail account
you might also consider buying your own domain to give you a personal email address.
    e.g. mail@JoeBloggs.org.uk
UK domains are about £4 a year
