DVLA - Blind in one eye

I have only come across this thread. I was born with two eyes and I had sight in both eyes. At the age of 24 years I was involved in a hit and run car accident and lost the central vision in one eye. I then had laser treatment to both eyes and had two major haemorrhages in what I now refer to as my good eye. I also developed a cataract but this was in what I refer to as my bad eye although this was removed approx. eighteen months ago. I had to get my eyes tested by an ophthalmologist and the local hospital and I had to have visual field tests. Although I failed the visual field test my ophthalmologist stated that I could apply for my license under “Grandfather Rights”. When the DVA received this they said I had to take a driving test and two assessors would be in the dual control car to assess my ability to drive safely. The assessors said I would have passed a driving test if I had been taking it for the first time as in their opinion I done everything perfectly. I got my license back for twelve months. My license expired in December 2008 but I didn’t get it back until March 2009 due to the tests I had to complete. My license then expired in December 2009 and it is still with the DVA as I have had to sit another visual field test. My ophthalmologist has to write a report based on the results and then the DVA will once again make their decision. Although I am allowed to continue to drive as my license has not been refused.
My insurance company are aware of everything as are the DVA.
Can I ask what has happened to your friends license since?0
