Hi i'm selling my electric cooker on ebay,i don't like electric so I want so advice on disconnecting my cooker, i know that I have to switch it off at the mains I know where that is-i'm a bit worried about the disconnection part-i know the wires go into the socket on the wall ,do I just remove them carefully, and screw the socket back on ,I don't want any live wires hanging about?, I know it's not rocket science but I also now how dangerous electricity can be.

I think you're technically supposed to get a 'leccy to do it these days, but I did mine myself (including wiring up the new one).
AS LONG AS THE SUPPLY IS DOWN (switch it off at the fusebox as well as the plug) then yeah, it's just a case of unscrewing it and taking the wires out. You can do it at the wall socket or the back of the cooker.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
And make sure you tighten screws up on remaining wires after.... with no bare copper exposed or touching metal surround........if in doubt........you know!! :eek:There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Something wrong here, disconnecting at the cooker end would surely leave a live wire when switching back on.0 -

Yep - Fusebox off and you'll be safe, disconnect at the wall. I assume your is hardwired in then? I believe ours (being a modern one) has a plug for the Hob sparker and then another plug for the oven itself0

If you are taking a cooker out and putting a new one in, it actually does make sense to do it this wayHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Off is not always OFF.
The correct thing to do would be to turn off at the mains, then test all the conductors to ensure they are all well and truly dead, disconnect, refit terminal box, done.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
