I have an Olympus C750 Ultrazoom digi-camera, that uses xs cards. I find taking action shots quite difficult because of the shutter lag. I alwys use Olympus cards. Is the amount of lag influenced by the size of card or its type- I notice through looking tr ads, there may be more than one type; some are called "M" for instance. Advice on the above and ideas to work round the problem will be much appreciated.

The lag shouldnt be caused by the memory card... for most cameras they take the picture, store it in a buffer to convert it to jpg and then move it across to the memory card. The only delay that the memory card can cause is when you are doing a rapid burst of shots (if your camera supports this) and the buffer fills up but in many cases the camera itself will be the ultimate delay as few cameras can do everything needed and pass the data to the memory card as fast as the best memory cards can accept it

Oh! I thought the problem was usually the speed at which the memory cards could accept data, hence the availability at an enhanced price of 'high speed" versions.

As Astaroth said, high speed cards really only come into play when using a continuous burst mode.

When looking I found the difference in normal and high speed versions of cards to be minimal.

What made me ask was my son-in- law tossing his son in air. I thought I had him in mid flight but actually got jim landing. Pictures of moving objects always come out further on than I think they are

Generally, 'point and press' cameras (in full auto) have to auto focus, expose and balance having 'read' off the sensor; this takes a finite time. Often, but not all the time, the less you pay for the camera the longer this takes. Sometimes taking the camera out of full auto and into 'sports' can shorten this time. Failing that, I'm afraid it's getting used to your camera and pressing the 'shutter' release a bit earlier. It is one of the annoyances of the 'compact' digi camera.
I got my kids to run around to get the hang of the lag, they enjoyed it and slept well that night:beer:

I have the Olympus Camedia C-70 zoom which has the same problem.
