hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice or has had the same experience.
in september my dad bought a cheap electric screwdriver from argos.he's used it less than 10 times and when he went to use it after charging it up the battery was still dead. took it back for replacement and was swapped fine, well after she tried to test it!!!. the only thing was she told me the guarantee still runs from the original purchase date. how can this be? im not too annoyed as we know its just a cheap thing but just wondered how this can be allowed when its a different piece of equipment?

That's more or less standard in a warranty/guarantee. The contract of sale starts from when the original sale is made, you don't enter into a new contract just because they replace the item.0

hmm it makes sense now, but if they keep breaking down within the year once the year is up the customer loses out, but like i said not bothered as it was cheap, was just wonderingThat's more or less standard in a warranty/guarantee. Some places due to the way they process replacements will, albeit inadvertently, give you a new guarantee.
But as there's no legal requirement to provide a guarantee in the first place, it's not a huge loss to you if they don't - you still have same rights.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
That really surprises me as when I worked there, the 12 month guarantee restarted each time an item was replaced. Did she give you a new receipt for the item, or write 'replaced' and the date on the original receipt?
[oops, I need to change my signature since I no longer work for them!]:A0 -
