I have had a few strange experiences just lately from people in short refusing to sell me items such as a Furniture and a washing machine, the machine in particular was showing as in stock yet i was being told it would be 13 weeks and i could not send the money, could go on the wait list but nothing in writing, the furniture took the money could not supply and refused to return the money telling me straight if i shouted at him he would not give it back, i had to call the police. Then got the refund.
Do they check up or something even if you have the money ?

hi
if i understand correctly, then no i don't see how they would know
was it a big chain store?0 -
I paid by cheque and the cheque cleared as the money was in there, yes it was a reputable furniture store and the machine one was also reputable, they refused to have me send the money, so they do not do a credit check unless you are asking for credit ?44lb off and 13 to go.:j0

sounds strange, if you're paying up front in full i don't see why they should credit check. odd..i hope you got it sorted in the end0

Never heard of anything like that before........

I shouldn't have thought so as I thought you had to sign something to authorise them to do a credit check?
You could always get your credit report, it would show on there, and if they have then you have grounds for complaint.
But I doubt you will find anything, it does seem odd that the furniture store took your money and then refused to refund you, just had a thought, did you have debts with either of the stores that were part of the br? like store cards or something?0 -
its POSSIBLE that, due to marketing strategy (i.e. wanting to flog you more stuff and send you junk email offers for credit) they can do a quick check and you come back as "unclean", but next time take CASH and slap it on the counter, that works 100%0

If it makes you feel any better, I have a blue co-op cashminder visa debit card, and it looks EXACTLY like my girlfiends co-op current account card (she has a perfect credit rating and has been with the coop for 25 years), so don't worry about that!0
