Sorry to ask a simple question to you green fingered MSE but i don't know who else to ask!.
I got given a Hyacynth as a present a couple of weeks a ago,i put it in a window watered it a little & it flowered lovely then after a few weeks the flowers died & now it looks really sorry for itself!, now i'm not sure what to do with it, do i just chop a few inches off from the bottom (as mum suggested but she wasn't really sure).
Do they reflower ok? where is best to keep them?.
Thanks for the help, sorry if this seems a little simple but i've never had one before!

Now it has flowered, dig a hole in the garden and plant it there, up to the level of the leaves. Don't touch the leaves - it needs them to build up a store of energy for next year. During the summer the leaves will die away and, all being well, next Spring it will flower again in your garden.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Furny,
I'm so glad you asked this question. My mum bought me some for Xmas and I potted them up and put them in the spare room under a box. And then completely forgot about them.
I have just looked and the buds are about three inches high and a bit pale, but otherwise ok. So thanks for reminding me. :)

A Badger- Thank you so much.My problem is i don't have a garden, my back is decked & the front gravelled. Is there a good way of keeping it in the pot for it to reflower as a houseplant (although i'm sure its not meant to be).
If not i could give it to my mum who has a garden or the neighbour.
I do have a very of small thin strip soil border at the side of the decking if it comes to it.
    Thanks for all help given.

My Mum puts hers in the pots out in the garage & then brings them back in again in the winter. So far they've all reflowered & she does nothing to them during the time they're in the garage.

OK, see if you can get a small packet of plant food - Phostrogen or something like that. The bulb will need to build up its resources for next year and will need feeding when you water it.

Put the pot in bright light (outside, ideally) and keep it watered and fed (follow the instructions on the packet). In the summer the leaves will die down. When that happens, stop watering it completely and don't let it get rained on - it needs to get completely dry. Don't worry - it won't die, even though it might look as if it has. After next Christmas, once spring is springing, start watering again and then keep your fingers crossed.

    Good luck!
