I rang british gas before xmas because my fixed rate tarrif was ending in december 2009,they told me to ring back in the new year.I rang back in January only to be told I had been put onto a new fixed tarrif. After showing my displeasure they put me on websaver 5 with no charges.I did not recieve any notification of the new fixed rate tarrif they had tried to put me on. They did not mention websaver 6 to me.

I'm pretty sure Web saver 6 was not out in January!
British Gas will claim to have sent you an email or letter where lots of these are ending in the junk boxes,
Though they have moved you onto the best tariff they had at the time so seems sorted to me0 -
Websaver 6 was only released AFTER BG lowered it's price in Feb. At the time you called, January, Websaver 5 would have been the cheapest option - that said, if prices go up between now and Mar 2011 you could end up kicking yourself for cancelling your fixed price. That's the problem with Fixed tariffs - it's a gamble...0
