Broken Laptop Screen

Only yesterday Amazon delivered to me a new Samsung R530 15.6-inch Notebook and today my son dropped it (he tripped on the stairs and notebook got dropped). As you can imagine I am not at all happy.
The notebook starts up ok and seems to run ok but the screen has been damaged. The left hand side of the screen is distorted and nothing is visable at that side.
I know I could call my insurance company and get a replacement which would cost me the £100 excess but I wondered whether I would be better off getting a replacement screen.
Is replacing the screen difficult? On the basis that the notebook loads and seems to run ok and I am to assume that all would be well if I replaced the screen or could there be more damage?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Plug an external monitor to the notebook to check it out, then you will know whether a new screen is all you need or not.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

paid by credit card and the card insures items???
Often you can get second hand screens.
I do not know this model, however the difficulty of fitting depends upon competency, but a noob should be able to replace most screens in 2 hours. An experienced person in about 30 mins and someone who deals with them in about 15 min0 -

Thank you. I tried Tesco CC but they stopped offering purchas protection insurance a while back. They used to offer 50 days. No more.0 -

Thank you. Seems obvious now you say it but I would never have thought of that. I will give that a try.0
