DJ prices

I'm in the process of looking for a DJ. Have never booked one before so have no idea what they usually charge. So I thought I'd ask you guys for some guidance! :p
Only had one quote back - it's £350. For that they set up on the morning of the wedding, provide background music during the meal and a mic for speeches, then a disco from around 7pm to 11pm.
Is this a good deal????

Thats pretty good if they do meal background music aswell. I think around the £300-£400 mark is pretty standard, but as always, get a few quotes and compare prices.

If you go on the you and your wedding forums there are lots of recommendations for djs/bands etc

Hi, ours is 7-12pm and is charging £210. He is the one recommended by the hotel and was by far the cheapest.

  • Someone at my partners work is a DJ. He is charging 'mates rates' costing £200. This is for him and his daughter from 6pm till closing.

Our DJ is £200 and we get to be the 1st ever people to use his brand new funky dancefloor, one that lights up like you get in flars, its the main reason we booked him.

Hes there from 7pm till 1am, and if we want him there earlier in the day to provide backgroud music or the PA system for the speeches its an extra £10 per hour.

  • Ours is £150, he's setting up from 7, with music from about 7:30-8 till midnight. Friend of a colleague so I got mate's rates...plus he's playing all the songs we like :)
  • Speak to the venue as they normally have a "deal" with a local DJ. A friend of ours used to do to discos at a local hotel at a lower rate due to the fact that he used to get so much business by being their so called "resident" DJ.

My OH is a hobbyist DJ and he will do family functions and has done a few weddings and he says be a little wary of resident DJ's not all of them are good. If you are going to book the resident DJ try and go to one of the events he does to see what he's like first.

We asked our DJ loads of questions to make sure he knows what he's doing and not just pretending to be good.

Our Dj jas an online library which you get acces to once you pay your deposit and there are over 600,000 songs to choose from. He also providdes loads of lighting equipment not just a set of 3 lights sitting on top of his laptop.

My mum hired a DJ who is very well respected where we live and paid £200 for the night, i wanted to slap him, he had 1 speaker, aa laptop and 1 light, he had all the music pre set on the laptop and all he did all night was keep the bar propped up and he didnt listen to a word they said about music choice, we said no cheese , the cheeky git played whig wham bam and YMCA, which they absolutely hate and didnt want, my mum bless her was almost in tears.

    Ours is £180 from 7pm till 1am.

If we want Karaoke, it's £25 extra.

It's a small world as he is really good friends with a couple we met in Lanzarote in 2007 and when we went to meet him, he asked me if I was related to X, and I am lol!

The hotel were we are getting married wanted £240 for the DJ they recommend.
