New Oven Damaged Kitchin Doors

Hi all, i'll try to keep this short...

I recently purchased and installed a new electric oven, the oven had a faulty door which didn't close properly, we contacted with the manufacturer who have since been and fixed this problem.

But...

When we used the oven before it had been fixed it got very hot which has burnt the cupboard doors, and draws either side. The oven manufacturer has agreed to replace these doors but we are unable to find an exact replacement (we purchased the kitchin from MFI who no longer exist). Obiously we don't want to have a couple of unmatched doors in our kitchin (they matched before the damage!) but the manufacturer is saying they are only responsible for replacing the damaged doors, not the rest in a matched set!

The oven manufacturer has said we should claim on our own home insurance, which sounds wrong considering they are responsible for the damage!?

any ideas where we stand?

Thanks

    Hi Mark88,

Claiming on the house insurance may be the way to go forward. Many years ago we had our whole kitchen re-fitted (MFI) and paid them to also install our electrical/gas appliances. One of the fitters lifted the cooker (freestanding) by the top, sorry not sure how to explain. It was a double oven with a glass hob with a vent at the back, they lifted at the back with the vent, rather than bending down and lifting from the floor. Subsequently this ripped the hob off of the cooker base, after many letters of complaint to the installers and their solicitors (must have cost the installers a packet in solicitors fees) we ended up claiming on our insurance for the cooker to be fixed.

Sorry bit long winded, but yes you should be able to claim on your insurance. As your kitchen is no longer available I would imagine they would pay for you have to replacement drawer fronts and kitchen doors for the whole kitchen.
