Help with bad periods in a teenager.

I'm being very pre emptive with this but would appreciate it if anyone knew anything.
I had my last smear today (having a hysterectomy in a few months, mum had one due to troubles, had awful periods as did my sister and many other family members) and talking to my lovely nurse about family history and my DD1, only started her periods last month but has bled almost continually since, she mentioned that there was treatment avilable to help her. I went on the pill at 15 to try to calm things down, my sis ended up on testosterone. I didn't have time to talk to the nurse in depth.
I will obviously see how things go and I feel it obviously is too early to talk to our GP so I was just wondering if anybody had experience of what the nurse was talking about?
Edited to say control of bleeding rather than contraception.

Thankyou for your reply, I just don't want to jump the gun but we have an awful family history and I truly don't want her to to go through that, I don't know what the treatment is tho.
Thanks again.Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.

It might well be going on the pill, which def helps - as you would know yourself, but some people think it might give mixed messages to someone of that age. (I.e. better to consider contraception separately and whether teenagers still use barrier methods if on the pill.)0

You need to make an appointment and go along to see whats available and also whether your dd has the same problem as yourself!
Definately get it seen too now rather then later!
There is also other forms of medication to help bad cycles so it may be that your dd is given a choice of what she wants.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

It is worth waitng a bit to see if she settles down.
My mother had hell for several days a month so when I started she was a bit anxious. I could not understand what the fuss was about. My sister however.....If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
As others have said, please do go and speak to a nurse or doctor - it could be that things will settle down over time, but if they don't, they should be able to investigate what's causing it.
As you have a family history of gynae issues, it may push them into getting answers quicker - it took me over 15 years to get diagnosed with adenomyosis (condition related to endometriosis), by the sounds of it you're going to be the kind of mum that won't just let them fob you off with the 'well all women have periods, you've just got to live with it/why should you be any different' type of attitude that I had to put up with for many years!
My diagnosis came after ultra sounds and MRI scans, so they shouldn't be too traumatic for your daughter if this is what they decide to do. Sadly I still have major issues now, so I'm going in to have laparoscopy (I think
) and dye test to see what else is going on in there. 0 -

Thankyou, I didn't realise I hadn't made it clear so i apologise , my fault yes it is the bad cycle help that I am reffering to and if anyone had any experience of treatment of this.Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! I would definitely second the suggestion of getting a doctor/nurse's opinion.
I had very irregular periods from when they started, either skipping them or lasting ages. They were also really painful so at first they just prescribed painkillers but when they got really bad they ran several tests (blood tests and ultrasounds) and I got diagnosed with PCOS which is actually quite common.
My doctor offered me several options for treatment, one of which was the pill but at 14 I personally decided not to go on it, and was given another treatment. I see my GP every six months to check how things are going, I did eventually go on the pill but it's not necessarily the only course of action.0 -
Thanks nadeshka, I think i'm worried that my gp will brush things aside and that I'm being silly for worrying too much but our family has had nothing but trouble and I don't want my daughter to suffer.
Thanks for everyones opinions I very much appreciate them.Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.
