kittycatsam - that dress is absolutely gorgeous. If I didn't KNOW that ballgown style dresses suit me best, that would be the sort of thing I would love. Have you seen Maggie Sotteros SaBelle? Very similar actually, and is sort of in the back of my mind if i do have to resort to a white dress because it's different enough from my previous white dress to be "acceptable" IYKWIM. But again, I couldn't afford the real version unfortunately. Were you pleased with the quality then? What made you pick Landy over Milly? As for the bust thing, although the design I like is strapless I was going to get some organza cap sleeves put on if I go for the Milly - more for a bingo-wing coverup than anything else. As for the originals "rolling down" - my original wouldn't have rolled down/moved/shifted for anything which is why I am so dubious about the Millys. Surely they can't be anywhere near as good. I was hauled into my old dress by 2 bridesmaids, they pulled and pulled until I was about 4 inches smaller - I guess you wouldn't be able to do that with these copies then?
Littlemadam - great idea about the seperate bra. I don't really want my boobs up under my chin either! Do you feel like the corset adds extra bulk at all? Whats the lacing on the back like - I'm guessing you think it won't add a problem having the lacing under your dress. Is your dress a corset/lace up back - presuming so otherwise I'm guessing you would have had to give measurements for the dress with the corset on? And the dress just sucks in over the top?
Franny - glad you like it - and amazed you found it all for sale let alone in the red, as it's now discontinued (so I keep telling myself that even if I had all the money in the world, ha ha, I wouldnt' be able to order the original anyway - makes me feel somewhat better) but as for it being a size 8 - I don't think I would be able to drop that many dress sizes before the summer!! Keep looking though, I am very grateful as you seem to have more luck than me!
Thanks girls....0 -

Hi missy, welcome to MSE the ladies (&gents) will help you with you're big day. I had a milly dress if you look on this thread here you can see photos of my frock. , I'm (just a wee!!) bit bigger than a 36 but am a F cup, I think you can kin of see on the black & white pic the boning buckled under the pressure < I also had a basque with good support too , it may have just been me & the competition between my belly & boob's, don't get me wrong I did like my dress but I could have done with better boning in the bodice of it, I was conscious of the boning buckling throughout the day & spent a lot of it trying to cover it with my hands. When I complained to Milly about the boning, they said it must have happened during the shipping & I should have just straightened it out. Add that to the fact that I didn't realise until the dress arrived , a few day's before my wedding, that the skirt wasn't tulle like it was supposed to be. I'd be carefull about recommending them tbh.
I'm not saying don't go with them, if you do make sure you order your dress, with plenty of time, (say 3 month's longer than they say it will take) so that you can get your undies sorted when it arrives.Booo!!!0 -

Terrible excuse!!!make sure you order your dress, with plenty of time, (say 3 month's longer than they say it will take) so that you can get your undies sorted when it arrives.
If you go for a good corset which has steel boning, you will need to purchase ths first! While good corsetry gives that lovely hourglass shape it can add a few mm's due to the boning and fabrics used (sometimes several layers) Always best to take your measurments wearing the corset.
Obviously this is my advice only.x0 -
Thanks for everyones advice.
I went with my Mum to try to my local stockist of the maker I like yesterday - to see initially if they stocked that red number that I liked and also to try some other styles on just to "make sure" the red one was the way I wanted to go.
Typically, with a red dress on, I looked awful. It drained me of colour and made my olivey skin look jaundiced! And I tried several shades of red; none really worked at all.
However, I did try a more traditional style in a new colour - pearl - which was a warm creamy colour and I loved it. And I totally loved one of the dresses the shop assistant suggested which I had bypassed totally - it's a sort of hollywood style hint of 1950's glam dress. Price tag £899  so I shall be starting another thread in a minute about getting one cheaper!
But anyway, the thing was as I stood there in it, seeing how it had sucked 4 inches off me and was so flattering, that I can't see how on earth a china-copy would do anything like as good a job as that. Not only that but I am concerned that the originals have a 16 week delivery which is cutting it fine to say the least, so if I plump for the Milly and it's not as good I'll have no time whatsoever to re-order.
Have no idea what to do now!!0 -
just to add that was "me" with the above post - DP was logged in as I'm using his laptop and I didn't realise so the post ended up in his name. Doh!0

I 100% totally agree with you. There is nothing like an original dress to suck you in and give you that figure. I dont know how they do it, but it's magical LOL.
If you can afford to buy an original seriously go for it, i've seen you are shopping around so perfect - do it!!!!
If you really have no luck and #900 is alot to spend would you try Landy? They are quicker and me and my mum literally fell in love with it when we saw it. The bead detail ok is not swaroski crystal or anything but is so immense and detailed. The satin not as heavy as a real one, but still to me quite luxurious.
Last night (over anxiety that my dress wasnt the one because it didnt suck me in) I tried it on with the corset. My dads eyes popped out of his head when he saw me and I think he had a tear in his eye. Last night was truely the first night I felt like an absolute princess, the way it fitted was just beautiful and just wow. I have fallen in love with it all over again. (initially I hated myself in it although the dress was beautiful).
If I can be of any more help let me know, have tried to be objective LOL xx0 -

something like this then?? The picture doesn't show the colour well, its champagne colour, which I would say is a 'creamy' colour.

this is also a Champagne colour, pictures show the colour better. think the dress is a marmite one, Love it or Hate it (I like it, but it wouldn't suit my small frame):rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Hows this for Hollywood glamour in a beautiful gold colour?

Hi and congrats
I nearly went for Lana also but after trying on a red dress it made me feel more like a bridesmaid than a bride so went with red and ivory instead.
