a milly bridal/corsetry dresses q, please?

Hi

I'm new :o) I've noticed there have been a few posts about Milly Bridal on here and I wondered if someone would be able to answer me a question.

I'm a 2nd time bride, unfortunately the first time ended in spectacular disaster (not caused by me, I might add!!). First time around I had a bigger budget and had a designer dress with a corseted top half. I'm a size 16 and everyone said it made me look like I'd lost about 2 stone. I never wanted to take it off!!! I loved my dress primarily not because of the style (although I did love that too) but because of how it made me feel, and how flattering it was to a size 16 me! I am a 36F and I didn't need to wear a bra underneath, it was SO supportive and "firm" lol!

Now I CANNOT afford that sort of dress 2nd time around and am seriously considering ordering a Milly Bridal dress. However, I wanted peoples opinions who have actually seen/worn Milly dresses first hand as to what the corsetry is like - is it anywhere near as supportive as the designer versions? I have seen lots of comments about the quality of the detail, fabric, etc, but no comments on the quality of the structure of the dresses and what to expect.

I was going to plump for a 2nd hand designer dress to be assured of the quality and corsetry, but unfortunately having done the whole "big white dress" thing before, I wanted a red dress this time around and finding such dresses 2nd hand is seemingly very hard, particularly as the designer in question only does a couple per year in the range.

I would REALLY appreciate comments on this one - from people who have seen the frocks first hand.

Thanks so much

Missy

  • If you've got pictures of your first dress, it might be worth emailing them to Milly and asking them to quote for making a copy in red?

It doesn't answer your corsetry question, but it is an idea if you loved your dress so much? You can them wear it over and over again
  • I've not had a milly dress but I have heard bad things about their structure - I think that is one of the only things that let them down.
You might better to consider finding a uk dressmaker - I have no idea what it would cost but I would bet you'd get better boning in it and would be less than a designer one.
    Bump due 22nd September
  • I think they are more or less the same but I have a Landy dress and have had to buy a corset to go underneath. I know what you mean about the designer dress corsetry, and LAndy does not come anywhere near.

My corset however is perfect and OMG it pulls me in! Am yet to try it with dress, but cant imagine it would look any different to the fit of a designer dress
  • Thank you. Frannyann there are some there which appeal; just not sure about the dual coloured ones and the distinct embroidery on some. My "dream" dress would be Lana by Maggie Sottero (as a newbie I can't post a link, sorry, it it will appear on several site if you google it) but it is a very dark burgundy "gone with the wind" type organza covered ballgown dress, with a seperate strapless corset top and a bit of twinkle.

LittleMadam - can I be really cheeky and ask where you got your corset from, and if it was expensive? Do you think a similar type of corset would be suitable under a dress style like the one above? If I got Milly to make it, I was going to ask them to put some organza cap sleeves on too.

  • WOW that MS dress is stunning! I love the detail and the skirt on it! I bought this corset http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cream-STEEL-BONED-CINCHER-Underbust-CORSET-WASPIE-16-18_W0QQitemZ250569728928QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWomen_s_Clothing?hash=item3a571ea3a0#ht_5682wt_860 and as I said I lose inches and inches! It moves with me and is an underbust so I have purchased a bra also (I didn't want to use my boobs as a shelf LOL).

I am 110% impressed with their customer service and was recommended them by someone else on here. I originally ordered a custom made to my size corset. A month later I get an email, "sorry your cincher has arrived but there is a mark on it, so have demanded the factory make another one immediately". I thought, hmmm yeah they just haven't ordered it. Within a week later I received them both for no extra charge!! The marked one you had to look so hard to find it, so their pre sending checks are so stringent!! So if there is one you like definately go through them!!!

As for going under your dress, I see no reason why not, someone else might be better to advise? I 100% think though that one is needed with a Landy/Milly dress xxxx
  • Hi There

I just received a Landy dress and petticoat last week. While it looks great and I'm enormously pleased with it there is no comparison to the dresses I tried on in stores in terms of the material and the corsetry. However only I will know this and at less than a quarter of the price it's fine by me.

I'm a size 16 and 36G so similar to you. I got this dress and the long line of the body with the ruching is really flattering http://landybridal.com/Product/Pro3952.Html

I don't need a corset with it but there is a bit of a bust issue. As I'm 5ft 11 I'm yet to find a corset long enough so this was a worry!

After trying it on for half an hour although it was quite supportive and well fitting it started rolling down on my bust, exactly like strapless bras do with me. As a solution I'm going to get a dress maker to add a halterneck to it and then it will be perfect! Maybe that could be an option for you...

    Good luck
