Cat Repellent

I've seen cat repellents for the garden but need something for just outside the front door. I've got a problem with a cat persistently fouling on the tiles outside the front door. Tried things like pepper spray and the thing ignores them. As the area is not secure not in favour of something that the local kids will steal and heard that yong kids can hear the ultrasonic solutions.

Does anyone have any proven solutions short of killing the critter?

Orange peel - my cat used to hate the smell and can be replaced quite easily.

I saw it on greenfingered but it dealt with gardens which is where I got the tip on dont use ultrasonic - my problem is a lot of the solutions are not practical in a public facing front door scenario - its not dirt - its tiles

Can you position yourself at a window and squirt the cat with some water. We used this method to scare away a cat that was terrorising my cat. He didn't come back in a hurry!
